CAIRO (Sputnik) — Egypt’s Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek sent the cases of 292 extremists to the military court accusing them of forming 22 terrorist cells, the Aswat Masriya news website reported citing the statement of the prosecutor's office.
The media outlet added that 158 defendants had already been detained, while the rest would appear before the court in absentia.
According to the website, several terrorists have killed judges and planned to kill the country's President Abdel Fattah Sisi.
Formerly known as Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, Wilayat Sinai changed the name and pledged its allegiance to Daesh in November 2014.
