The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Russia are moving in the right direction toward improving the situation with alleged violation of anti-doping rules in Russia, WADA's Deputy Director General Robert Koehler said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – However, Koehler added that some challenges still exist, for instance, WADA was still denied access to the samples by the Moscow laboratory, which remained sealed since April, when WADA recalled its accreditation of the lab.

"We have now revised a detailed roadmap to work with RUSADA to ensure compliance can be achieved, using a series of timelines and deliverables…. We are on a good path and there is light at the end of the tunnel," Koehler said at the WADA Foundation Board meeting as quoted by the Insidethegames website.

The WADA Foundation Board meeting, aimed at discussing the future of the world anti-doping system, is taking place in Glasgow on Sunday.

The doping scandal, simmering since 2014, escalated in July when WADA presented a report accusing Russia of running a state-wide doping program and urging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian Olympic team. The IOC instead opted to let individual sports federations decide on the matter.
