BEIJING (Sputnik) – Chile would like to join the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as soon as possible, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said.
“Chile welcomes increasing investments of Chinese businesses in our country and is also going to join the AIIB as soon as possible,” Bachelet said Tuesday during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Santiago, as quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
She noted that Chile wanted to cooperate with China on international issues.
Leaders of the countries also decided to improve bilateral relations upgrading them to the comprehensive strategic partnership.
The AIIB is an international financial institution proposed by China and aiming to invest in infrastructure projects. It was created in October 2014 and currently has 57 founding members. China, India and Russia have the largest share of votes on the board of directors.
