Pakistan Navy Prevents Indian Subs From Entering Country's Territorial Waters
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, media reported that at least 20 people had been killed and 18 got injuries in shooting on the border. On Tuesday, Indian military said that three of its soldiers had been killed along the Line of Control in the Machhal sector and promised to respond with "heavy" retribution.

"In an unscheduled Hot Line interaction requested for by Pakistan, Indian Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Ranbir Singh spoke to his counterpart today. Pak[istan's] DGMO informed of civilian casualties on Pak[istani] side by Indian firing along the Line of Control," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, Singh expressed condolences over Pakistani civilian casualties, though noted that retaliatory firing by Indian forces had only been carried out targeting locations, from where Pakistan had attacked Indian check points.

The Pakistani official said the DGMO would maintain strict control of the troops in order to prevent the servicemen from "any nefarious activities."

India and Pakistan have been contesting the Jammu and Kashmir region since gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. The conflict has already provoked two wars between the countries. The Line of Control, where deadly incidents take place on nearly a daily basis, separates the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir from the territory under the jurisdiction of Pakistani forces.

The recent escalation of violence across the India-Pakistan border came after 19 Indian soldiers died as a result of the September 18 attack by armed militants on a base outside of Srinagar, the capital of India-controlled Kashmir.
