MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A refugee camp in the suburbs of Austrian capital Vienna was set on fire with Molotov cocktails by an unknown person, the police said on Sunday.
The police spokesman Johann Baumschlager told Austrian newswire APA that an individual, who had not been identified yet, had thrown beer bottles filled with combustible liquid at the building. The blaze did not spread to the whole building, damaging only a part of the outer wall, so no one was injured.
Austria received some 90,000 asylum applications last year. Therefore, in order to curb the influx of migrants, the government adopted one of the toughest asylum laws in Europe, which allows Austrian authorities to declare the state of emergency if the number of refugees suddenly rises, and reject asylum seekers at the border.
