ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The European Union’s executive body has been in talks with the Russian company over its alleged monopolistic practices in several Central and Eastern European gas markets since the inquiry was launched in August 2012. In April 2015, the European Union filed charges against Gazprom within the framework of this investigation.
"The negotiating process has ended, now we are in the execution stage… I think that we will send an agreement signed by our side [to the European Commission] no later than by mid-December and surely before the Catholic Christmas," Alexander Medvedev told reporters.
He added that after the company sends the papers to the EU institution, a market test would be held, and Gazprom hoped this test could result in the end to the anti-monopoly lawsuit.
On October 26, the Russian energy giant said that it had held constructive talks with Brussels and would send its final settlement offer on the issue in the near future.
