MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Attempts to break parity in strategic nuclear armaments are dangerous and fraught with potential global "catastrophe," Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a Federal Assembly address Thursday.
"I would like to emphasize that attempts to break the strategic parity are extremely dangerous and can lead to global catastrophe. One cannot forget about it for a minute," Putin said.
He noted that cooperation between Russia and the United States in resolving global and regional crises is in the interests of the entire world. Both countries share the responsibility of ensuring international security and stability in advancing nonproliferation, Putin added.
