MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Monday, wildfires spread from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park into inhabited areas in eastern Tennessee.
WBIR-TV said citing Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters on Thursday that at least 10 people have died in the county as a result of the fires. The earlier death toll was seven people.
Earlier in the week, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said that the present wildfire was the biggest fire that occurred on the state’s territory over the past 100 years.
Over 50 people have been injured because of the fire and over 700 buildings in Sevier Country have been destroyed.
