OULU (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting with Sipila in the Finnish city of Oulu.
"Finland is considering this project to be a commercial one on the basis of its legislation and international rules. The most important thing for Finland is to clarify possible environmental consequences of this project. Our timely decisions will be taken at the national level," Sipila said after the meeting.
Russia is seeking alternative ways of gas deliveries to Europe. It works on the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project that will allow delivering gas to northern Europe through the Baltic Sea.
