MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the final part of McLaren report, commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), said that as much as 600 Russian summer athletes and 95 winter athletes were involved in manipulations to conceal positive doping tests.
"Today’s report from Richard McLaren is hugely significant for sport and those who fight to keep it clean. Everyone engaged in sport needs to ensure that the right processes, sanctions and safeguards are in place to protect everyone’s right to clean, fair and honest sport," Sapstead said in a statement published at the UKAD website.
"In a landscape where anti-doping is woefully underfunded, more money needs to be found to support investigations. The sports, many of which receive considerable income from commercial activities, need to step-up and help anti-doping organisations," she said.
In July, a WADA commission led by Canadian law professor Richard McLaren presented a report based on the investigation results, in which Russia was accused of running a state-wide doping program.
