Aleppo: Double Veto on Terror

Russia and China blocked the latest UN Security Council resolution on Aleppo, which called for the suspension of the Syrian Arab Army’s operation in the city of Aleppo, with both powers arguing that it would only play into the hands of die-hard terrorists.

This diplomatic event showed that Russia no longer had an appetite for engaging in what would have assuredly been yet another failed ceasefire, thus emboldening Damascus to make the decisive move to enter the terrorist-occupied Old City of Aleppo and push the remaining fighters out.

The Battle of Aleppo seems to be in its last stage, but it remains to be seen what twists and turns lay ahead in bringing an end to the War on Syria. Turkish troops still occupy northern Syria, the terrorists are in control of Idlib and Raqqa, and the PYD-YPG Kurds insist on  pursuing their “federal” project.

Sergei Strokan speaks with Vladimir Sotnikov, Director of the East-West Strategic Studies Center (studio guest), Afraa Dagher, Syrian political activist, and Max Suchkov, Al-Monitor, columnist, member, Russian Council for International relations.
