MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the France Televisions broadcaster, the incident occurred earlier on Monday at Dardilly, near the city of Lyon, southern France, as the four armed criminals, reportedly with the assault rifles, stopped a security truck and stole the gold powder. After the robbery, the thieves set the vehicle on fire and fled. The fire spared to at least at least three cars parked nearby.
According to other media reports, the robbed van belonged to the Sweden-based Loomis transport company. The police saved the two truck drivers.
The reports said that the stolen gold was worth some 2.5 million euros ($2.66 million), and the alert was issued by a local witness, who was an employee of a local high school.
