MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A delegation of three French lawmakers plan to visit the Syrian city of Aleppo in order to promote the humanitarian solution to the conflict in the region, member of the French National Assembly Cecile Duflot said Monday.
"We cooperated with the UN representatives and individuals who are at the border between Turkey and Aleppo. As a result we plan to go as close as possible to the residents and refugees. The aim of our mission is clear, which is to insist on the humanitarian solution," Duflot told the France Info radio station.
The delegation consists of lawmakers Duflot, Herve Marition and Patrick Mennucci. Currently the lawmakers are said to be in Turkey, from where they plan to head to Aleppo. According to Duflot, the delegation adheres to the official position of France regarding the crisis.
President of the City Council of Eastern Aleppo Brita Hagi Hasan is expected to accompany the delegation. Duflot noted that their decision to visit Aleppo came after Hasan had visited France and asked the lawmakers to support the humanitarian solution.
Thousands of civilians are believed to be trapped in the embattled city of Aleppo without access to food, water, electricity or medical assistance.
