"We can confirm that a ceasefire agreement was reached in eastern Aleppo as a result of the negotiations between the representatives of Russian military and opposition," the Foreign Ministry's press secretary, Huseyin Muftuoglu, said in a statement obtained by RIA Novosti.
According to the ministry's statement, civilians and then groups of armed opposition would be evacuated in the direction of the town of Idlib, southwest of Aleppo.
Muftuoglu pointed out Turkey's efforts to reach ceasefire and open humanitarian corridors in Aleppo.
Over the recent months Aleppo has become a major battleground in Syrian civil war. The government forces have recently been able to make significant progress in their offensive to drive out militants from eastern Aleppo.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting Syrian opposition groups striving to overthrow the president. Damascus is also fighting numerous extremist and terrorist groups such as the Jabhat Fatah al Sham and Daesh, both outlawed in Russia. According to the United Nations, at least 300,000 Syrians have died since the beginning of the conflict.
