Tuesday: Collapse of Mosul Dam could have “worse effect than nuclear bomb”; new UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres sworn in, tells representatives that UN must adapt to meet complex challenges it faces; and, Venezuelan President announces border closure to combat “currency war”.

Nadhir Al-Ansari, Professor at Luleå University of Technology, and expert on the Mosul Dam, tells World in Focus that its inevitable collapse will have a worse effect on Iraq than a nuclear bomb. If the Dam does give way than the devastating consequences will be felt by over 7 million Iraqis.
 
The new UN secretary General, Antonio Gutteres was sworn in yesterday as the ninth secretary general of the united nations. Addressing representatives in the general assembly he stated that UN must adapt to meet the increasingly complex challenges that the UN faces.
 
Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, has announced a 72- hour border closure with neighbouring Colombia in order to curb the so called currency war following reports of vast quantities of hundred Bolivar notes being hoarded outside of the country.
 
A British-Algerian journalist has died after staging a hunger strike over his detention in Algiers. He was jailed after sharing a Facebook post critical of the country’s President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika. We hear from the Director of the North African bureau of Reporters Without Borders.
 
Is Greece heading towards a new crisis?  As the debt-ridden country hits another stalemate with its creditors, there’s speculation that ruling party Syriza may call a fresh general election next year.
