TOKYO (Sputnik) – Passed on Thursday, the law requires that the Japanese government develop legal measures within the next year that will detail the process of establishing entertainment areas where casinos will operate.
The entertainment areas will include hotels, shopping centers and other facilities. Regions wishing to have the casino resorts operate on their territory will need to submit applications.
It is estimated that the first casinos will appear in Japan after 2020 and that the industry could potentially generate $30 billion a year in the country.
Up until now, casinos were illegal in the country.
