Moscow’s Dorogomilovsky Court on Thurday started legal proceedings in the case of recognizing the 2014 events in Ukraine as a coup d'etat.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The lawsuit was filed by former Ukranian lawmaker Vladimir Oleynik. He asked the court to establish the fact of a coup in Ukraine which will automatically lead to recognition of the current government of Ukraine illegitimate.

Earlier at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency, Oleynik announced that he seeks to bring to justice those responsible for illegitimate power change in Ukraine. He said he believes that respective court decision could set a precedent and prevent changes in other countries' constitutions that could lead to conflicts and violations of constitutional rights and freedoms of the citizens.

Viktor Yanukovych was removed from the post of Ukraine's president in February 2014 after months of protests in Kiev's landmark Maidan square. New Ukrainian authorities are headed by Petro Poroshenko.
