WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The blockade was imposed at the Backwater Bridge, the site of a violent clash in November between law enforcement and protesters opposing the $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline construction because of environmental concerns.
"The blockade has been a serious issue for our people as it cuts us off from the shortest route to major hospitals and other emergency services," Archambault said on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, the US Army Corps of Engineers decided to halt final-stage construction of the nearly 1,200-pipeline in the state of North Dakota because of concerns over the project’s environmental impact.
