MOSCOW (Sputnik) — December 22 is birthday of Stenin, Rossiya Segodnya's photojournalist, who died in the line of duty in Ukraine in 2014.
The Andrei Stenin photo contest was established by Rossiya Segodnya under the auspices of Russia’s Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In 2016, more than 6,000 photographs from over 70 countries participated in the contest.
The international photo contest was first organized in December 2014 in memory of Stenin who was killed in Donetsk Region of eastern Ukrainian on August 6, 2014, when the car he was driving while on an editorial assignment was shot and burned on a highway. The photo contest aims to promote young photographers and attract public attention to photojournalism.
