ISTANBUL (Sputnik) — Iranian daily gas exports are expected to reach 365 million cubic meters by 2021, the country's Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Trade and International Affairs Amir Hossein Zamaninia said Tuesday.
"We think that gas will supersede oil in a few years in the global energy basket, by some accounts by 2040… gas will be the choice for future. By the year 2021, we will have somewhere around 365 million cubic meters of gas per day for export," Zamaninia said during the World Petroleum Congress (WPC) in Istanbul.
Meanwhile, the overall gas industry output in Iran would hit 1 billion cubic meters per day by the end of 2017, the deputy minister added.
According to Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) data, Iran exported 8.567 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2016.
