Representatives of the Russian Consulate General in Hamburg will meet with two Russian citizens detained during the G20 summit in Hamburg, press attache of the Russian embassy in Berlin said on Thursday.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — Representatives of the Russian Consulate General in Hamburg will meet in the next few hours with two Russian citizens detained in Germany's northern city on suspicion of participation in mass unrest during the G20 summit, press attache of the Russian embassy in Berlin Denis Mikerin said on Thursday.

"Employees of the Consulate General will meet with the detainees in the next few hours and take all necessary steps to ensure their legal rights and interests," Mikerin wrote on his official Facebook page, adding that the Consulate has received an official response to its request regarding detention of the Russian nationals.

The press attache expressed hope for establishing contact with families of the detainees seeking their possible assistance in the matter.

On Wednesday, the public prosecutor's office of Hamburg told Sputnik that the Russians were accused of causing bodily harm and resisting law enforcement officers during mass.

The G20 summit took place on July 7-8, accompanied by demonstrations that turned into riots, leading to clashes with police. Almost 300 people were detained and 144 arrested. According to police data, over 470 officers were injured.
