WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US State Department official confirmed earlier in the day that the meeting between Ryabkov and Shannon would take place on Monday.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said last week that Moscow expects Washington to make specific offers at that meeting on how to resolve the dispute with the seizure of Russian diplomatic properties in New York and Maryland.
The meeting was initially scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg on June 23, but was subsequently postponed by Russia due to the "lack of US readiness for the comprehensive discussion."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow would take retaliatory measures against Washington if the situation with Russia's diplomatic property was not resolved. Ryabkov told Sputnik that Russia had prepared a "tough" response to the United States' move among other options.
Two diplomatic compounds belonging to Russia were closed down at the end of 2016 as part of the sanctions introduced by Barack Obama's administration over Russia's alleged interference in the US presidential election, which Moscow has repeatedly denied.
