"It would be disastrous," Manchin told MSNBC, replying to a question about the outcome of hypothetical Obamacare repeal without providing a replacement for the healthcare system.
On Monday, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pulled the revised version of the healthcare bill from consideration following the announcement of two more senators they will not support it.
The Senate would instead vote on fully repealing Obamacare within a period of two years, which will allow time to create a new healthcare system, McConnell said.
Manchin argued that if the new healthcare legislation becomes law, every demographic of West Virginia would get hit, "from the old to the young to the poor to the people with pre-existing conditions, opioid addiction, it goes on and on."
Earlier on Tuesday, President Donald Trump stated via Twitter that the new healthcare legislation should follow the inevitable failure of Obamacare.
