WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "After reflection, my decision was to recommend to [President Donald Trump] that I give Anthony and [succeeding press secretary] Sarah [Huckabee Sanders] a clean slate to start from," Spicer said on a late night Fox News show.
US media speculated after Spicer’s abrupt announcement that he had objected to Trump’s plan to hire Scaramucci, but Spicer, who briefly filled in the communications director role, said he quit because he felt there were "too many cooks in the kitchen."
He added President Trump did not want him to go but assured him that he would continue to be as supportive as always. Spicer added he was looking forward to watching Sanders and Scaramucci do a "tremendous job."
