MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Bodies of men and women were found Thursday piled up in the street in the northern city of Nuevo Laredo, a spokesman on internal security for Tamaulipas state said.
"The prosecutor general’s office of Tamaulipas has opened an inquiry into the murder of nine people in Nuevo Laredo," Luis Alberto Rodriguez said.
Authorities said the remains were found at an intersection of two roads. A message was allegedly discovered nearby but it was impossible to read. The prosecutor’s office has not confirmed this.
The Tamaulipas state on the US border has seen gruesome gang wars between two drug cartels – Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel – over trafficking routes to the United States.
Earlier in the day, the US House of Representatives passed a "Make America Secure" bill to fund a wall along the southern border, among other security measures promised by President Donald Trump during the 2016 election campaign.
