MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Venezuelan state prosecutor’s office ordered a probe on Thursday into the death of a 48-year-old man at a protest west of Caracas, the sixth person to die during a two-day nationwide strike.
"The Public Ministry has commissioned… an investigation into the death of Leonardo Augusto Gonzalez Barreto (48)," the ministry said in a statement, adding the man was killed during demonstrations in the Carabobo state.
This has added to Thursday’s death of a 16-year-old teenager who died from a gunshot wound he received in Caracas on the first day of the shutdown on Wednesday. The Nacional news website also reported a 20-year-old had been killed earlier in the day at a rally in the Lara state.
Anti-government protests across Venezuela have so far led to at least 108 deaths. Opposition leader Freddy Guevara has meanwhile praised the 48-hour strike action, saying it had completely paralyzed the country.
