Afghan Police Kill Daesh Militants Attacking Iraqi Embassy in Kabul - Ministry
MOSCOW (Sputnik) NATO condemns the attack against the Iraqi Embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul staged by the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia) on Monday, NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Cornelius Zimmermann said Monday.

"I strongly condemn the attack against the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kabul today. Attacks against diplomatic facilities and staff are against the principles of the international law. Daesh has once again demonstrated their utter disrespect for civilian lives," Zimmermann said.

The representative also stressed that the alliance was standing firm in its commitment to support the Afghan security forces.

Earlier in the day, a group of four Daesh militants attacked the Iraqi embassy. One of the terrorists detonated a bomb at the entrance gate of the embassy, thus opening way to other attackers. As result of a four-hour gun fight all the militants have been killed, one policeman was wounded.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said that no embassy staff members were hurt in the attack.

Media reports suggested that two embassy security personnel were killed in the attack.

Last week, Afghan security forces recovered two Pakistani diplomatic officials who were abducted in June.

Afghanistan has been suffering from significant political, social and security-related issues provoked by the activity of the Daesh. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been acting together to combat terrorism in the country.
