GORKI (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed Monday a decree that simplifies the procedure for giving visas to participants of the World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS), which will be held in Russia in October.

"In the fall, we will hold a great international event. Moscow and Sochi will host the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students, which will gather tens of thousands of young people from different countries. They are future public figures, businesspeople and politicians. Many of them will certainly require visas to arrive in our country. To facilitate the procedure of receiving such visas and of customs examination, I have signed a corresponding decree," Medvedev said at a meeting with deputy prime ministers.

Medvedev also recalled the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, held in Russia from June 17-July 2, considering it a great example of how well the simplified visa issuing procedure works.

In turn, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko noted that more than 10,000 people from over 160 countries would take part in the event. While the festival is being prepared, visa fees will be lifted for the foreign participants.

The WFYS is a dialogue platform, aimed at uniting young people, who achieved success in various areas. The very first WFYS was held in 1947, and since then, Russia has hosted the festival twice: in 1957 and 1985.
