WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US-led coalition strikes against the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia) on Tuesday destroyed an oil refinery near the Syrian Deir ez-Zor, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.
"Near Dayr Az Zawr, one strike destroyed an ISIS [Daesh] oil refinery," the release stated on Wednesday.
The coalition carried out eight additional strikes in Syria, destroying Daesh well-heads, fighting positions, a fuel supply point and two headquarters.
In Iraq, the US-led coalition conducted three strikes consisting of six engagements against Daesh targets near Al Huwayjah, Rawah and Tal Afar, the task force said.
The US-led coalition of more than 70 members is conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Daesh in Syria and Iraq. The strikes in Iraq are conducted in support of the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the UN Security Council or the government of President Bashar Assad.
