Flynn resigned after less than one month in office for failing to fully disclose the details of his December communications with the Russian ambassador in Washington to White House officials.
Sources close to the inquiry told the New York Times that Mueller’s investigators had been questioning witnesses about his consulting firm, the Flynn Intel Group, and a campaign it allegedly ran for a Turkish businessman to discredit a Turkish government critic, accused of a role in last year’s botched coup.
Despite his mandate to look into allegations of President Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia, the counsel has lately been focusing on possible financial crimes of the president's team. Trump has warned that the inquiry should not go beyond the 2016 election as it would be outside Mueller's mandate.
