MANILA (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are likely to pay special attention to the issue of North Korea during their meeting in September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday.
"We have new contacts ahead, including in Xiamen, it will be very soon, in a month. We are preparing for this next summit of our leaders and expect that during this meeting President Putin and President Xi will be able to discuss key issues of bilateral relations, cooperation on international issues, paying special attention to the topic of North Korea," Lavrov said during his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of ASEAN forum in Manila.
Lavrov added that Moscow completely shared Beijing’s assessment of relations between the two countries and their peoples, as well as between their leaders.
In July, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said that Putin and Xi were scheduled to meet on September 3-5 at the BRICS summit in China’s Xiamen.
