WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Four ammunition suppliers will share a $500 million award to provide the US Army with non-standard ammunition and mortar weapon systems, the US Defense Department said in a press release.
"Alliant Techsystems Operations, Chemring Military Products Inc., Global Ordnance LLC, and UDC USA Inc., will share in a $500,000,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of non-standard ammunition and non-standard mortar weapon systems," the release said on Monday.
Non-Standard Ammunition is any ammunition or weapons system that the Department of Defense has not tested or classified by type. It can also include ammunition and weapons not used by the US military or NATO forces such as the 7.62 round and the AK-47 used widely in Afghanistan.
Work is scheduled for completion on Aug. 6, 2022, the release added.
