WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The senator said President Donald Trump's remarks on the issue yesterday were inappropriate.
"We need serious people at the @StateDept dealing with the issue of North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons and missile capability," Sanders tweeted. "Our job is to work with China and our allies in the region & around the world on a comprehensive diplomatic strategy to address the problem."
"Trump’s bombastic rhetoric is not appropriate when we are dealing with the possibility of a nuclear war that could kill millions of people," Sanders wrote.
Following Trump's statement, North Korea announced it was considering missile strikes against the western Pacific island of Guam, where multiple US military bases are located.
On Saturday, North Korean leader Kim Jung-un threatened to take decisive steps against the United States, including "physical action," after the UN Security Council passed new economic sanctions against his country.
