Syria's air force has inflicted significant damage to the Daesh supply lines in a series of raids carried out in the Qalamoun mountain range near the Lebanese border, Iranian media reported Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Fars News Agency reported, citing a source in Damascus, that Syrian jets hit Daesh positions in Jaroud Qarah and Jaroud Jarajeer regions, focusing on the Zamani Crossing, which serves as a major route for terrorists from Syria to Lebanon.

The raid was conducted to thwart terrorist supply lines at the border and make them withdraw their forces from the positions they still occupy in the Qalamoun mountains, according to the outlet.

The airstrikes were carried out in preparation before a joint Syrian-Lebanese anti-Daesh operation in the Aarsal mountainous region on the border between the two countries, a major arms and gunmen smuggling hub.

On August 2, a major humanitarian operation was finalized in Aarsal region, with members of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, formerly known as al-Nusra Front (outlawed in Russia) transferred to Syria as part of a pact to free Lebanese Hezbollah prisoners.
