MOSCOW (Sputnik) — An employee of the international charity Save the Children and his children are among hundreds of people missing after the deadly mudslide that hit Sierra Leone on Monday, the organization said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Save the Children has confirmed that a staff member, along with his young children, is among the hundreds of people missing following a devastating mudslide in Sierra Leone. The aid agency says the staff member’s house was buried during the mudslide, which struck close to the capital Freetown on Monday morning," the statement said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his condolences to the victims' families and the country’s government, as well as reiterated full support and solidarity of the United Nations with the ongoing rescue operations.
