MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On August 10, Trump, on his Twitter page, asked why McConnell, who had been calling for repealing and replacing Obamacare for seven years, has failed to do so in the Senate.
Half of Republicans said that Trump’s Twitter attacks on McConnell were appropriate, whereas 32 percent felt otherwise, a poll conducted by the Politico media outlet and the Morning Consult company showed. The results further said that 56 percent of all voters, not just Republicans, do not support Trump’s criticism of McConnell.
Most Republicans believe that McConnell is more knowledgeable about the legislative process in the United States, whereas Trump is viewed as being more informed on policy issues. When taking all respondents into account, 47 percent said that the Senate majority leader knows more on policy issues.
Fifty-five percent of Republican voters said that Trump was more honest than McConnell and only 14 percent feel otherwise.
The poll also showed the 60 percent of Republicans believed that Trump was more in touch with them than McConnell was. The Senate majority leader was only backed by 16 percent of the party’s electorate on the issue.
The survey was carried out on August 10-14 among 1,997 respondents.
