According to the US secretary of state, North Korea shows restraint in missile tests after the newly imposed UN Security Council sanctions.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Tuesday that the United States welcomes the restraint that North Korea has demonstrated after the newly imposed sanctions by the UN Security Council.

"We have had no missile launches or provocative actions on the part of North Korea since the unanimous adoption of the UN Security Council resolution," Tillerson said in a press conference. "I am pleased to see that the regime in Pyongyang has certainly demonstrated some level of restraint that we have not seen in the past."

Moreover, the United States hopes that the level of restraint North Korea has demonstrated after the new UN Security Council resolution could lead to dialogue with Pyongyang in near future.

"We hope that this is the beginning… that they are ready to restrain their provocative actions. And that perhaps we are seeing our pathway to sometime in near future having some dialogue. We need to see more on their part, but I want to acknowledge the steps they have taken thus far," Tillerson said.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula has become aggravated in recent months due to a series of missile launches and nuclear tests conducted by Pyongyang, all of which are claimed to be in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. Earlier in August, the UNSC unanimously adopted Resolution 2371, which further tightens sanctions imposed on North Korea.
