PARIS (Sputnik) – The magazine reported, citing Marseille's Prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux, that the man "did not provide any explanation to the acts, committed with [the use of] car."
The newspaper also noted that in late 2015 the detainee was already sentenced to a three-year imprisonment for theft. The man was released on May 17 and then hospitalized to a psychiatric institution in the department of Bouches-du-Rhone.
On Monday, the man driving a car rammed into bus shelters injuring one person and killing another.
Local media reported that the detained 35-year-old suspect was known to the police but not to the intelligence service and cited a source close to the investigation saying that the driver suffered from a mental disorder. No indication that the incidents might be terror attacks was reported.
