MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ankara has refused to release French journalist Loup Bureau, who has been in Turkish custody since July 26, the journalist's lawyer said Friday.
"We have just learned that application for release filed on behalf of Loup Bureau was rejected. It is a fight. It will be continued," Martin Pradel, Bureau's lawyer, wrote in a tweet.
On Tuesday, the supporters of Loup Bureau held a rally in Paris, calling on the government to take action. The demonstrators stated that the arrest happened due to political reasons and demanded that the authorities engage in resolving the problem at the political level.
In late July, Bureau was detained in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province on his way to northern Iraq, after which he was charged with supporting terrorist organizations. Bureau had in his possession photographs and interviews of members of the People's Protection Units, which Ankara believes to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a designated terrorist group in Turkey.
