The two men, Sinan Narin, 45, of McLean, Virginia, and Eyup Yildirim, 50, of New Jersey, admitted responsibility on Thursday for having started a violent street fight near the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC, in May, according a report by Reuters quoting the US Justice Department.
Their sentencing is scheduled for March 15, 2018, the Justice Department statement says.
The violence broke out during Erdogan's visit to the US on May 16. A group of people, some of whom carried flags of Kurdish political parties, protested his visit at the embassy; they allege they were attacked by Turkish and American members of Erdogan's security team and pro-Erdogan protesters. Erdogan's opponents frame the incident as an attack on their right to peaceful protest by the Turkish government.
On June 6, a US House of Representatives resolution unanimously passed, calling for all Turkish security guards involved to be charged and prosecuted under United States law.
Narin and Yildirim were arrested on June 14 for assault in connection to the incident, according to a report by NBC News at the time.
