South Korea's largest mobile-gaming company Netmarble has introduced a technology that automatically recognises the emotional timbre of a voice and can create appropriate facial animations at SIGGRAPH Asia 2021, which took place online on 20 December. The technology launched by Netmarble, with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), can now recognise a person's emotions from their voice and apply facial expressions while lip synching. According to the company's spokesman, this technology will not only lead to livelier and more natural animation by establishing a certain standard for how various emotions - such as love, irony and sorrow - are expressed, but also improve the experience for gamers and cut the time it takes developers to release their games. SIGGRAPH Asia is the world's most prestigious graphic technology conference and exhibition and took place between 14 and 17 December 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Certain sessions which had been pre-recorded because of COVID-19 have been available since 6 December.
