Japan has been suffering from various natural disaster over the past days: around two million people were ordered to evacuate on Sunday due to the extremely strong typhoon Nanmadol approaching the island of Kyushu.
Japanese authorities declared a tsunami warning for the island of Miyakojima in Okinawa prefecture after a powerful earthquake hit the eastern part of Taiwan on Sunday.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake had a magnitude of 7.2, and its epicenter was situated 86 kilometers (52.2 miles) east of Yujing district at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). Later in the day, the China Earthquake Administration said that the earthquake was 6.9 in magnitude and its center was in Hualien County on the eastern coast of Taiwan.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
A clip and footage showing the aftermath of the quake in Taiwan was published by China Central Television.
At the same time, other photos and videos depicting the aftermath of the earthquake were circulating online.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, one-meter-high waves may hit the coast, sweeping through communities and and damaging houses. The agency warned residents to avoid coastal areas and remain at home.
