WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Almost 161,000 customers in Florida have no electricity as hurricane Idalia made landfall on the state’s coast, the Poweroutages.us portal said on Wednesday.
"States and territories by customers out: Florida 161,326," the portal noted.
Another 8,000 people have no power in Georgia and North Carolina, which Idalia is expected to hit later in the day or Thursday.
US National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that the hurricane’s maximum sustained winds are 120 miles per hour. "Catastrophic storm surge and damaging hurricane-force winds continue," the NHC stressed.
