More Cutting-Edge Su-57 Jets Enter Russia's Military Service

The state-of-the-art Su-57 fighter jet’s stealth characteristics are successfully used in the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has handed a new batch of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters to the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to the UAC, the warplanes went through a full cycle of factory tests and were also tested in various modes.
The Su-57 multirole fighter, which was developed by the Sukhoi company, is designed to destroy all types of air, ground and surface targets. The aircraft has a supersonic cruising speed of 2,400 km per hour, intra-fuselage weapons, radio-absorbing coating and the latest set of on-board equipment.
The fighter is fitted with a powerful on-board radar with phased array antenna. The jet’s armaments include the whole range of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, such as the R-73 and the K-37M, as well as aerial bombs.
In terms of cruising speed, the Su-57 outstrips its American analog, the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, which flies at a maximum speed of 1,980 km per hour.
Notably, the cruising speed is not the only characteristic where the Su-57 prevails over the F-22. Suffice to mention, the effective range (the Russian warplane’s 1,080 km versus the US jet’s 760 km) as well as air targets engagement range (up to 1,080 km versus up to 180km).
On top of that, the Su-57, which is equipped with hypersonic armament and artificial intelligence, can successfully interact with drones – characteristics that are not in place in the F-22.
Honored Russian military pilot Vladimir Popov told Russian media that much attention is paid to the design features for stealth use of the Su-57 in airspace. Popov underlined that from some angles, the jet is almost invisible, or it can only be seen at the last minute at a close distance from the radars.

He was echoed by Moscow-based military expert Anatoly Matviychuk, who told Russian media that the Su-57 “surpasses all fourth-generation fighter jets in terms of speed, maneuverability, and firepower." He noted that although the US army possesses similar warplanes, the Su-57 has a “very advanced level of growth” as far as upgrade is concerned.

One cannot but mention the Su-57s taking part in Russia’s ongoing special military operation in Ukraine, where these warplanes “resolve multifaceted tasks of hitting both air and ground targets,” according to Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov.
“The successful use of our advanced aviation systems in real combat situations contributes to the growth of interest in them on the international market,” Manturov told reporters, referring to the Su-57.
When visiting the Army-2023 forum outside Moscow last month, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was briefed on the effective use of the Su-57 in the special military operation zone, where the plane “solves tasks with high quality, hits targets, and uses its distinctive stealth characteristics.”
It remains to add that the warplane made its maiden flight on January 29, 2010, and entered service at the Russian Aerospace Forces in late 2020. The Russian MoD plans to form at least three regiments comprising of a total of 76 Su-57s by 2028.
