Russian air defenses have shot down a Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missile off the coast of the Crimean peninsula, Russia’s Ministry of Defense said today.
The Neptune missile launched by Kiev at an unspecified target within Russia’s territory was detected on approach by Russia's early warning systems and promptly shot down over the Black Sea.
The Defense Ministry did not immediately specify what type of Russian air defense system intercepted the Ukrainian missile.
Kiev forces have been carrying out increasing drone and missile strikes against Russian territory, including the Crimean Peninsula and the bridge across the Kerch Strait, since the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict last year, with most of these attacks targeting civilian infrastructure.
