Diesel Deal Between Russia, US Beneficial for Both Countries, Global Market - Russia's Dmitriev
11:36 GMT 14.10.2026 (Updated: 12:31 GMT 14.10.2026) The diesel deal between Russia and the US benefits both countries and the global market, Kirill Dmitriev, Russian special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, told journalists on the sidelines of the International Russian Energy Week forum.
Russia will continue its economic cooperation with the US despite Europeans’ attempts to disrupt any interaction with US, he added.
"Why are our European colleagues behaving this way? Because they are trying to disrupt any cooperation between Russia and the United States. But we see that we will continue economic cooperation, as [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin has instructed us to do," Dmitriev told reporters.
The United States currently maintains the position that lifting sanctions on Russian companies is difficult, but a mutual dialogue on this matter is ongoing, he noted.
"When we visited Washington, the issue of lifting sanctions, specifically against our companies, was on the agenda. Previously, the US had granted certain relaxations concerning sanctions on Russian oil, but these were handled on a monthly basis. Currently, the US position is that lifting sanctions on companies is difficult, but we are working with them across various areas," Dmitriev said.
The US intensified mediation efforts on the Ukrainian settlement in September. US special presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kiev, where they held talks on possible ways to end the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Trump on Friday. Following the call, the US President said that an agreement had been reached on the supply of diesel fuel from Russia. He said the US was very pleased to receive much-needed Russian diesel.
