The advisors include Lt. Gen. James Glynn, who led the Marine Corps special operations division and participated in the fight against the Islamic State terror group (banned in Russia) in Iraq, the media said, citing two US and two Israeli officials.
Glynn and other US military officials are advising the Israeli Defense Forces on their operations in Gaza, but are not directing them, the agency stated. The advice has largely been focused on expected ground operations in Gaza, the report stressed.
Earlier this month, Palestinian Hamas fighters launched a surprise attack on Israel, prompting a state of war in the country. Israel has since launched a number of strikes on Gaza in advance of the expected ground assault.
Glynn is not expected to remain in Israel to track the ground operations, the report added.
