With Russian gas powering thousands of Chinese homes and Chinese cars cruising along Russian roadways, Wang Yi said on Thursday, that he believes that this fully reflects the stability and broad prospects of cooperation.
"Last year, bilateral trade reached a record level of $240 billion, reaching the set target of $200 billion ahead of schedule... Russian natural gas is being supplied to thousands of households in China, and Chinese cars are driving on Russian streets: this fully reflects the strong sustainability and broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries," Wang said at an annual news conference at a session of China's parliament, the National People's Congress.
The second session of China's 14th National People's Congress opened in Beijing on Tuesday and will last until March 11.
Mutual political trust between Moscow and Beijing continues to strengthen under the leadership of both countries' presidents, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
He emphasized that Russia and China (PRC) have established a new model of relations between major countries that is markedly different from the Cold War era. The two nations are deepening their cooperation based on the principles of non-confrontation and non-interference in the affairs of third parties.
Russia and China will continue bolstering international cooperation, maintaining regional and global security and stability, the minister stressed.
Moscow and Beijing have created a new model of relations between major counties that completely differs from the Cold War era, Wang Yi emphasized.
The PRC supports holding an international peace conference recognized both by Russia and Ukraine with equal participation by all parties, the top diplomat highlighted.
China Supports International Peace Conference on Ukrainian Crisis
Beijing supports holding an international peace conference recognized both by Russia and Ukraine with the equal participation of all parties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
"China supports convening in a timely manner an international peace conference recognized by both Russia and Ukraine with equal participation of all parties and impartial discussion of all peace plans," the foreign minister told an annual news conference on the sidelines of the second session of China's 14th National People's Congress, running from March 5 to 11 in Beijing.
All efforts made by China in the Ukraine conflict are aimed at paving the way to peace negotiations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said added.
The top diplomat said that China had always taken a fair stance on the Ukraine conflict and insisted on reconciliation.
"Everything we do is aimed at achieving one goal — paving the way for ending the war and starting peace talks," Wang stressed.
One-China Principle Is International Consensus
The one-China principle has become the consensus of the international community, and those who support the independence of Taiwan are challenging China's sovereignty, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
"After Taiwan's election, we have seen more than 180 countries and international organizations reaffirm their commitment to the one-China principle and the support for China in defending state sovereignty and territorial integrity," Wang told an annual news conference on the sidelines of the second session of China's 14th National People's Congress, taking place in Beijing from March 5-11.
He added that "this fully demonstrates that the one-China principle has become the common consensus of the international community."
"If there are people who condone and support the independence of Taiwan, they are challenging China's sovereignty, and if some countries insist on maintaining official relations with Taiwan, they are interfering in the internal affairs of China," the diplomacy chief said.
US Perceives China Erroneously
Washington continues to hold a misguided perception of China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at an annual news conference Thursday.
The Chinese top diplomat said that after the meeting of the two countries' leaders in San Francisco, “some progress was made in improving Chinese-American relations,” which, according to the diplomat, is fully consistent with the desires and interests of the two countries and world nations.
"But we must note that the US's misperception of China remains," the Chinese foreign minister said.
He said the promises made by the United States are not being fulfilled, while more and more diverse measures are being introduced to put pressure on Beijing, and the list of unilateral sanctions continues to increase.
“We urge the United States to recognize the general trend of historical development, to consider China’s development objectively and rationally...” Wang said, adding that if the United States focuses on suppressing China, it will definitely ultimately harm itself.
China Advocates for Palestine's Full UN Membership
China advocates for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations and calls on several UN Security Council members not to impede the process, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
"China firmly supports the Palestinian people's just calls of regaining their legitimate rights and is always committed to a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine at an early date. We support Palestine's full membership in the UN and urge certain UN security members not to lay obstacles," Wang told reporters in Beijing during the annual "Two Sessions" meeting of the Asian nation's main political bodies.
The top Chinese diplomat pointed to the long-lasting "occupation" of the Palestinian territories, saying that the global community should not ignore that fact.
The Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition of their independent state in the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, in addition to the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity and builds settlements in the occupied areas despite objections from the UN. Palestine was granted non-member observer state status by a 2012 UN General Assembly resolution.
All Nations Should Follow UN Charter Rules
All countries in the world should follow the rules enshrined in the UN Charter and not create their own with a view to satisfying their desires, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
"China has always believed that there is only one system in the world, and that is the system centered on the United Nations ... No country should bend its own line and create its own rules," the minister told a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of China's 14th National People's Congress.
There is also only one set of rules for international relations and it is based on the purposes and principles set in the UN Charter, he said.
"The series of crises and challenges in the past years, once again warn us that the UN role can only be strengthened, not weakened, the place of the UN must be protected, and it cannot be replaced," Wang added.
At the same time, the UN should keep up with the times and continuously reform and improve to adapt to the new reality of international political and economic development. In particular, the representation and voice of the emerging economies should be reinforced, the minister concluded.
Currently, the UN Security Council consists of five permanent members — the United States, China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom, and 10 rotating members.
