Last week, the cortege of the Yemeni Minister of Defense Mahmoud Al-Subaihi was attacked by insurgents, leaving several people injured.

None of the terrorist groups, operating on Yemen’s territory, has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) could be behind those attacks, Sputnik interviewees argue.

The AQAP group fights against the Shiite movement Ansar Allah, which has links to Iran and stands in a strong opposition to insurgent fighters in a range of Yemeni regions.
