“According to the information received from the intelligence services, al-Qaeda is planning a series of robberies of cash collectors, post offices, banks and private vehicles. Attacks on several military checkpoints are expected,” a source told Sputnik, adding that the employees of the law enforcement agencies have taken all precautions to counter a terror threat.
Yemen has seen a continuous unrest after a peaceful transition of power in 2011.
On Wednesday, it was reported that at least three people died, 15 got injured in a powerful explosion near the residence of the Iranian ambassador in Sanaa.
None of the terrorist groups, operating on Yemen’s territory, has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) could be behind those attacks, Sputnik interviewees argue.
The AQAP group fights against the Shiite movement Ansar Allah, which has links to Iran and stands in a strong opposition to insurgent fighters in a range of Yemeni regions.
