The petition proposed by ex-congressman Dennis Kucinich and labeled "No to War, Hot or Cold, With Russia", has collected over 14,700 signatures out of 15,000 on the DIYRootsAction website. It calls for a reversal of Resolution 758, which the petition says "distort[s] facts and hypocritically condemn[s] actions the United States is itself guilty of in order to antagonize Russia, effectively declaring a new Cold War."
The petition identifies NATO encirclement, the US-backed coup in Ukraine, attempts to use an agreement with the European Union to bring NATO into Ukraine and US nuclear first-strike policy as negotiating tactics that substitute force for diplomacy.
The resolution condemns Russia's policies toward a number of countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States and demands that President Barack Obama continue a policy of sanctions against Moscow. The resolution also requests that Russia return Crimea to Ukraine and cease its support of Syria's president Bashar Assad. The resolution demands that Ukraine and other countries diversify energy initiatives to "reduce the ability of the Russian Federation to use its energy exports as a means of applying political economic pressure."
